Jessica Bowden Receives the Meritorious Service Medal

Home » Blog » Jessica Bowden Receives the Meritorious Service Medal

In a historic moment at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Jessica Bowden received the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) from Governor General David Johnston — one of Canada’s highest civilian honours.

The award recognized her decades of service empowering youth across Nova Scotia and beyond. As founder and CEO of Teens Now Talk (TNT) Magazine, Jessica created a literary platform written by teens for teens that reaches over 150,000 readers annually. The magazine gives young people “bragging rights” — real skills in writing, photography, leadership, and self-confidence.

The citation praised her for raising awareness, building confidence, and motivating teens to become the doctors, lawyers, and leaders of tomorrow. This national honour joined her long list of accolades, including the Hope, Success and Empowerment Award, Black Cultural Centre Wall of Honour (first living woman), and multiple Hali Awards.

From her pioneering modeling career to founding Ebony Shopping Plaza and Level Up Academy, Jessica has dedicated her life to lifting others. The MSM is powerful proof that one woman’s determination can create lasting change for generations.
