In 2011, Jessica Bowden stood on stage at the Hali Awards and received a standing ovation for her groundbreaking work with young people.
The emotional video of the ceremony captures the moment perfectly. Presenter Isaac Adams shared how Jessica changed his life by connecting him with opportunities and helping him chase his dream of becoming a concert pianist. Jessica’s acceptance speech was pure inspiration: “When a door closes, a window always opens.” After a modeling injury ended one chapter, she opened a new one by founding Teens Now Talk Magazine in 2007 (planning began earlier).
The award honoured her for creating a literary platform that builds self-esteem, teaches real skills, and gives teens bragging rights. As the founder of TNT Magazine, she turned her own adversity into a movement that empowers youth to explore their potential.
This local Hali Award remains one of her most meaningful recognitions — proof that grassroots work with young people creates ripples that last forever.
